Babies First Haircut!
Comb over and over, but that silky baby fur just tangles worse than a spider web in a windstorm. Important note: Rabbit skin is paper thin! Great caution is needed not to nick and tear skin. This is not a fast grooming so make time, and use it to bond with your bunny. Once the baby fur is off, the senior coat will come in and a simple comb and brush will do. Time varies based on when you decide to trim to your bunny. Earliest is best. How we do it: Comb, Safety Scissors, a Pillow or Carpeted Platform for your Bunnies Comfort, and Partner (optional) Paper bag for cut fur, and absolute 2 must haves: Dryer sheet and Corn Starch Cuddle bunny on the pillow until they feel safe and secure. The back and sides are the easiest because the bun can be on the pillow without being held. Use the comb to guard the skin from the safety scissors and always cut on top of the comb. To trim the belly and legs, (this is when a partner comes in handy), cradle them on the pillow on their back, again nice and secure. Using comb, trim what you can. The Dryer Sheet helps keep the fur from clinging to your fingers and clothes and nose, also wiping it on the bunny helps prevent static. the corn starch works like a dry shampoo, mainly on adult bunnies but if a baby is messy from playing or has sticky poo this helps wonders. |
